I’ve been a big fan of comic books since I was a kid and have enjoyed the last 16 years (since the original Tobey Maguire Spiderman movie) of comic book movies. While I failed to see the original Deadpool when it hit theaters, it quickly became one of my favorites when it was available on iTunes.
The Deadpool character was always this sarcastic anti-hero, so Ryan Reynolds had a lot to work with. Going R rated and breaking the fourth wall, the original garnered more than $300 million at the domestic box office.
The trailers for Deadpool 2 looked promising and I have to say the movie did not disappoint. There is no need for a parody of superhero movies when the sarcasm of Deadpool2 and the original pay off by sending up many of the stereotypes and clichés of superhero movies. It’s even nice to see Deadpool make light of the darkness of the DC Universe movies.
My hope is that when Disney does get to buy back the rights to the X-Men, that they will be able to integrate Deadpool into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
