Now the Presidential election is over, can all those still on the cliff, move back inside?
I’m a right-of-center Republican, I was College Republican President at Stony Brook. I have never voted for Donald Trump because when you live in a house with two Trumps (narcissists without Trump’s level of success), you can’t vote for him because of PTSD. While I voted for Joe Biden in 2020, I didn’t vote for Kamala either. Like the managing partner when I worked at that law firm, she was an empty suit. Kamala didn’t connect with the electorate, all she had was she’s not Trump, and Trump is bad.
While there are plenty of things to like about Trump’s positions, I don’t like the chaos that goes with it. That being said, I hate political hyperbole. This country survived 4 years of Trump, we will survive another 4 years. We survived far worse. We survived a Civil War. We survived Watergate, which brings me up with one of my favorite political speeches of all time, the inaugural address of Gerald Ford. Ford took office in troubling times after the resignation of Richard Nixon, and Ford was never elected President or Vice President.
Ford remarked: “Our Constitution works; our great Republic is a government of laws and not of men. Here the people rule.”
So before you pack your bags for whatever country you want to, I want to tell you that I think we’ll be fine.
