The local library had its volunteer fair. There are about five or six civic groups in my village and it’s all the same people, the very same people who have ruined the schools, done nothing for the community except political photo ops, and raised little money that doesn’t benefit the people of Oceanside.
They don’t volunteer for good, they volunteer to be considered political bigwigs, while some with the power can use community resources to dole out jobs. These people aren’t special, because I find that so many volunteering opportunities, mean that while you come in with the best of intentions, some people don’t.
I spent a year as a Vice President of a synagogue and I was surrounded by the people who were responsible for taking the membership down from 750 families to 250 families. If you’re not doing a good job, step aside, but many people in these positions are narcissists, and they don’t have the proper psyche to understand that they’re doing an awful job. Ben Parker told Peter that with great power, comes great responsibility, but too many volunteer organizations don’t have the right folks to run it.
I just volunteered for an alumni group I belong to. I haven’t heard back. I hope that I don’t.
